Fabulous Friday 2021, XXV

Happy weekend! June has been nothing short of crazy and good. So rather than try to go back and break it up week by week I’ll just do an overview.

We traveled to Cali and Dallas. We had an epic time gazing at Sequoias and whale watching. A full trip memory post coming soon. We had an intentional extended stop over in Dallas for sister and brothers time as well as tacos.

We headed home. I worked a few days. Had a Tuesday with NO turtles (maybe it was the tropical storm that came from the gulf/land out into the Atlantic). Then headed back to Dallas for a family weekend. Although we missed some of our significant others it was lovely to have all the Copley Girls in one place.

I went back home, worked barely got unpacked and then we headed to ATL to see some of Ry’s besties. The same ones that visited us in Beaufort and we saw in Dallas but we went over a year with out seeing them so we are playing catch up.

Phew. I’m tired just thinking about it. It’s safe to say we are back to pre Covid traveling. Thanks science and vaccines!!

My little garden is limping by with the help of a neighbor and summer rainstorms during our travels. Ryan added another olive and a pomegranate tree to the line up for my upcoming birthday. I told him now we need a house so I have more yard for my plant babies. There there really isn’t room for them.

Happy weekend!

Happy weekend!

We are enjoying an adventure more on that later.

Spent the first part of the week working and prepping the house.

Turtle Tuesday brought two more turtle nest to Hunting Island. I was able to probe and find both.

We began our adventure. I’m working on rather than writing in a journal as a normally do on a trip just doing a blog post from the get go.

I am currently engrossed in The Book of Lost Names. I didn’t finish nearly as many books in May as normal.

Happy weekend!

Fabulous Friday 2021, XX & XXI

Happy weekend! Although it feels like our weekend is winding down I know it’s just beginning for most.

We have had a fun and people we love packed two weeks.

We celebrated Em,Teddy and Ryan’s birthday last week. Unsure if anyone should be allowed to marry into the family or birth babes with birthdays from about May 8-28. We are pretty booked solid.

While visiting I also met one of my besties babies finally thanks to Covid. We had a blast with the whole family.

I try to grab some pics of Em around her birthday every year and during summer. Be still my heart.

We saw a snake on the beach last week during turtle patrol but sadly no turtles. Not my idea of a good time or preferred wildlife.

This weeks turtle patrol adventures were spectacular though.

Growing up I’d go on sunrise walks with my Grammie or dad. I don’t remember any one else getting up with us too much. We would seek shells and often I stole my dads old film camera to capture the sunrises and shrimp boats. Later I was upgraded to a panorama film camera of my own.

We also always trolled the beach for turtle tracks and looked for the sea turtle conservation volunteers. We would watch and eagerly learn as they gathered data and moved nest. I always dreamed one day in retirement or maybe just a summer when I was able to come volunteer myself.

In 2019 we moved here which took much courage and bravery on my part but there’s always been something about Hunting Island. Even though I hadn’t even officially fully moved here I made sure I scoured the website to find out when and how to be a sea turtle volunteer. I had a blast my first year. Held my first hatchling and was even more invested than before. 2020 was a different year but this year I was able to be a prober. I know some of you have no clue what this means- I get to analyze a crawl, take the robe stick and try to locate the eggs. Then they will be marked and caged or moved with lots of rules and regulations if needed above the high tide line.

Last Tuesday I was about to successfully probe and find not one but two nest. I don’t know why and I can’t really describe it or help you understand unless you too are in fact a crazy sea turtle person. But needless to say the magic of Hunting Island was extremely potent that morning.

This week we also had Ryan’s friend and family visit. We had a fun boating day with lots of dolphin sightings on Wednesday. We were able to hang out with the smallest family member while mom and dad had a conference.

He loved the beach and uncle Ryan’s crazy driving.

The Summer garden is unfolding. I harvested quite a bit of basil.

A couple days work then an adventure next week. It’s our favorite kind of adventure!

Happy weekend!

Fabulous Friday 2021, XVIII & XIX

Happy Weekend! Last Friday got away from me and I didn’t get this out.

Turtle season has officially started. Hunting Island had its first turtle activity today which was a non nesting crawl.

I hope everyone’s Mother’s Day was something of what you hoped for.

The past two Tuesdays I’ve been lucky enough to find some teeth.

Ryan’s parents came to visit and camp at Hunting Island. We explored the south end of the island a bit and I got so burned it’s embarrassing and I’m still peeling.

Sunrises on the regular enhance my life.

We are visiting Em and family for May birthdays this weekend. We have already had Ethiopian and Indian food. Exciting diverse food is something Beaufort lacks.

The garden is entering summer mode.

I have had some fun in the kitchen lately. Homemade bread, hummus, pesto and salsa. We made grilled cheese on homemade bread with mozzarella and fresh pesto. We will definitely add that to the summer rotation.

Happy weekend. Enjoy.

Happy Weekend! I’m most excited that turtle season starts tomorrow!

Last week I got too busy and did not get this written in time.

I visited this sweet angel for a few days. We had dinner with friends, did nails and homework. She wanted to match Tate of course.

My sister, aunt and uncle also came for a visit! What a treat it is to have people visit. Yay for science and vaccines. We had a picnic and took our rental dog with us. She enjoyed being carried. In her defense we did walk far for her little legs. We visited the Cypress Wetlands to look for alligators. We also found some nesting birds.

If you need a educational, fascinating and mellow show, then Secrets of the Whales on Disney+ is great.

We took this old girl out for a ride finally and got her cleaned up for summer.

Penelope spent another day with us and clearly we are so fun we exhausted her or so boring she couldn’t stay awake. Unsure how comfortable that is but she stayed like that for a bit.

The new bridge to Hunting Island is open. It’s nice and wide. But I will miss the old bridge that carried me over to my favorite island all my life until yesterday.

It took three trips to Home Depot, two trips to Lowe’s, two orders from the internet and one return but we finally have a headboard. No more losing my pillows into the bay window.

If you need a way to elevate your Monday nights might I suggest having a cheese plate for dinner. Easily thrown together and yummy.

It’s strawberry season in the Lowcountry. Be sure to stop by Dempseys or Barefoot Farms.

My nails over the past two weeks!

My new Simplified goodies came.

Happy weekend!

Happy weekend!

Another week. Another picnic.

My mama was here last weekend. Yay for vaccines and science! We had a picnic, visited HI where I found six tabby tiny sharks teeth. We also had Easter dinner.

I got a shelf for my seedlings and plant things. Hopefully this will keep the back porch more organized and usable. Also I’m praying for rain. This pollen is insane. I think it’s fading but a good earth wash would do us good.

This week I had a few cheese bites left from this big box and part of the packaging was open so I put it in a glass container to save space and taped the directions on top.

I got some good cleaning done this week like cleaning out my clothes.

All the birds. I recently went to Cypress Wetlands with Em and have been back twice since.

Enjoy your weekend!

Happy weekend!

Fresh strawberry pickin with a friend.

I can’t wait to try this lemon dressing on some lovely fresh summer tomatoes.

It was a stressful few days of a family medical thing but my rental pup came over everyday to give me snuggles.

I love the idea of a commonplace book. I did something similar in the days and months of grief after our miscarriage. I copied over sewer text and love and support and good things from the universe to remember always.

I was luckily enough to snag some Jeni’s ice cream in partnership with Dolly Parton. My order shipped this week but it arrived incomplete and totally melted, they think someone actually stole some ice cream.

We had some visitors last weekend. We played at Hunting Island and went to the Port Royal Wetlands in search of alligators.

Emily Ley and team Simplified launched their 2021-2022 academic calendars this week. Use my code for a discount if you want to grab one.

Happy Weekend!

A good reminder on adult task that we often push off but should be done.

We made a PVC frame to hang netting on to keep the birds and hopefully squirrels away from my olive trees.

Another week, another picnic.

How cute are these Easter/ Spring desserts. I think I’m making the traditional bunny shape cake but raspberry.

What I have read so far this year. ⭐️ means better than most. :a means an audio book. And * means I borrowed it for free from the Library or app.

Mean planning has been such a stressor and pain point for me. I feel like it’s my responsibility and part of my love in caring for Ryan so there is some self imposed since of failure when meal planning seems hard. Anyways I sat down and planned out the entire month. We can flip flop or change if we want but there is a flexible plan in place.

I scurried down the road to Savannah this week. I had lunch with a friend well my sister’s college roommate and friend but I’ll claim her too. I also went shopping for some shorts and at stores we don’t have in Beaufort.

We finally ordered a new bed. We still are looking for a headboard. We have learned they aren’t cheap.

Happy weekend. And Happy Easter.

Happy weekend! Somehow last weeks blog post didn’t get pushed to publish, so it’s a double publish day.

We had little love Bug for part of her spring break. She wore Tate out. We visited the beach, went to yoga, swam twice at the pool and had Penny over the whole time.

I’ve been struggling with the meal planning. I am working on a meal planning blog post but one of our quick family favs. Easy peasy. Chicken parm. But Chick-fil-A filets. Add jar sauce top with fresh mozzarella wrap in foil pop in the oven to reheat and melt the cheese. Boil noodles mix with Raos Alfredo. Add some garlic bread. Boom done. Delicious!

Chocolate. Covered. Local. Strawberries.

I’ve been inspired by @beginathome to tidy some spaces. If you need a good follow on Instagram.

This growing system popped up on my Instagram as well and now I want one or something similar for our back porch.

This beauty popped up in my garden this week. I planted them late but better late than not in the ground at all.

We visited the Cypress Wetlands in Port Royal. Lots of pretty birds, turtles and three alligators.

We drove past our old house last weekend and I am so sad at the state of our grass. We laid that sod ourselves and I build that rock wall myself. I spent hours plucking things to keep it nice when we lived there.

We stayed at the Galleria hotel last weekend when we picked Em up. I told Ryan he made my childhood dreams come true, he said, “Good I made my dreams come true too because it was cheapest.” Ha! This used to be the place to stay when we were little. Attached to the great mall in the big city of Birmingham.

This giant jelly was washed up on HI. I mean my foot is huge as I have been made fun of many times in my life. Size 11 women’s foot for reference.

Happy weekend!

Happy Friday!

We left the beach we live at to visit another beach.

How cute are these Jack Rogers? I don’t own any but also I can not justify spending that much on shoes.

I crossed back over to the Apple side of life. I was tired of missing parts of our family group text. All my family except Ry have iPhones. Ry and I text through Signal anyways. I must say I was only with Android for three years but I totally had to Google how to turn off my iPhone. Definitely a learning curve switching back. And yes I am purposely rocking that Care Bear phone case.

We caught up with Ry’s uncle and aunt this week. We realized thanks to stuff they had going on, us moving and the pandemic we hadn’t seen them in four years.

I made some homemade hummus and lamb ragu over hummus this week. It definitely wasn’t Alon Shaya’s but not bad.

More & more of my family is getting vaccinated and I am so excited. If you need help finding a vaccine appointment for you or someone you love let me know. Honestly it gives me a victory thrill to get those appointments made.

Ryan made fried shrimp and fries for dinner. I think we have mastered the buffalo shrimp at home.

Iceland is now allowing vaccinated visitors!! Whooo. Also, they have recorded more than 40,000 earthquakes in the past three weeks which has caused a volcano to erupt but we would still go.

Happy weekend! I hope everyone is adjusting to daylight savings and stayed safe with the storms this past week.
