My mama was here last weekend. Yay for vaccines and science! We had a picnic, visited HI where I found six tabby tiny sharks teeth. We also had Easter dinner.
I got a shelf for my seedlings and plant things. Hopefully this will keep the back porch more organized and usable. Also I’m praying for rain. This pollen is insane. I think it’s fading but a good earth wash would do us good.
This week I had a few cheese bites left from this big box and part of the packaging was open so I put it in a glass container to save space and taped the directions on top.
I got some good cleaning done this week like cleaning out my clothes.
All the birds. I recently went to Cypress Wetlands with Em and have been back twice since.
I can’t wait to try this lemon dressing on some lovely fresh summer tomatoes.
It was a stressful few days of a family medical thing but my rental pup came over everyday to give me snuggles.
I love the idea of a commonplace book. I did something similar in the days and months of grief after our miscarriage. I copied over sewer text and love and support and good things from the universe to remember always.
I was luckily enough to snag some Jeni’s ice cream in partnership with Dolly Parton. My order shipped this week but it arrived incomplete and totally melted, they think someone actually stole some ice cream.
We had some visitors last weekend. We played at Hunting Island and went to the Port Royal Wetlands in search of alligators.
Emily Ley and team Simplified launched their 2021-2022 academic calendars this week. Use my code for a discount if you want to grab one.
A good reminder on adult task that we often push off but should be done.
We made a PVC frame to hang netting on to keep the birds and hopefully squirrels away from my olive trees.
Another week, another picnic.
How cute are these Easter/ Spring desserts. I think I’m making the traditional bunny shape cake but raspberry.
What I have read so far this year. ⭐️ means better than most. :a means an audio book. And * means I borrowed it for free from the Library or app.
Mean planning has been such a stressor and pain point for me. I feel like it’s my responsibility and part of my love in caring for Ryan so there is some self imposed since of failure when meal planning seems hard. Anyways I sat down and planned out the entire month. We can flip flop or change if we want but there is a flexible plan in place.
I scurried down the road to Savannah this week. I had lunch with a friend well my sister’s college roommate and friend but I’ll claim her too. I also went shopping for some shorts and at stores we don’t have in Beaufort.
We finally ordered a new bed. We still are looking for a headboard. We have learned they aren’t cheap.
Happy weekend! Somehow last weeks blog post didn’t get pushed to publish, so it’s a double publish day.
We had little love Bug for part of her spring break. She wore Tate out. We visited the beach, went to yoga, swam twice at the pool and had Penny over the whole time.
I’ve been struggling with the meal planning. I am working on a meal planning blog post but one of our quick family favs. Easy peasy. Chicken parm. But Chick-fil-A filets. Add jar sauce top with fresh mozzarella wrap in foil pop in the oven to reheat and melt the cheese. Boil noodles mix with Raos Alfredo. Add some garlic bread. Boom done. Delicious!
Chocolate. Covered. Local. Strawberries.
I’ve been inspired by @beginathome to tidy some spaces. If you need a good follow on Instagram.
This growing system popped up on my Instagram as well and now I want one or something similar for our back porch.
This beauty popped up in my garden this week. I planted them late but better late than not in the ground at all.
We visited the Cypress Wetlands in Port Royal. Lots of pretty birds, turtles and three alligators.
We drove past our old house last weekend and I am so sad at the state of our grass. We laid that sod ourselves and I build that rock wall myself. I spent hours plucking things to keep it nice when we lived there.
We stayed at the Galleria hotel last weekend when we picked Em up. I told Ryan he made my childhood dreams come true, he said, “Good I made my dreams come true too because it was cheapest.” Ha! This used to be the place to stay when we were little. Attached to the great mall in the big city of Birmingham.
This giant jelly was washed up on HI. I mean my foot is huge as I have been made fun of many times in my life. Size 11 women’s foot for reference.
We left the beach we live at to visit another beach.
How cute are these Jack Rogers? I don’t own any but also I can not justify spending that much on shoes.
I crossed back over to the Apple side of life. I was tired of missing parts of our family group text. All my family except Ry have iPhones. Ry and I text through Signal anyways. I must say I was only with Android for three years but I totally had to Google how to turn off my iPhone. Definitely a learning curve switching back. And yes I am purposely rocking that Care Bear phone case.
We caught up with Ry’s uncle and aunt this week. We realized thanks to stuff they had going on, us moving and the pandemic we hadn’t seen them in four years.
I made some homemade hummus and lamb ragu over hummus this week. It definitely wasn’t Alon Shaya’s but not bad.
More & more of my family is getting vaccinated and I am so excited. If you need help finding a vaccine appointment for you or someone you love let me know. Honestly it gives me a victory thrill to get those appointments made.
Ryan made fried shrimp and fries for dinner. I think we have mastered the buffalo shrimp at home.
Iceland is now allowing vaccinated visitors!! Whooo. Also, they have recorded more than 40,000 earthquakes in the past three weeks which has caused a volcano to erupt but we would still go.
Happy weekend! I hope everyone is adjusting to daylight savings and stayed safe with the storms this past week.
Happy Weekend! Don’t forget to Spring Forward Saturday night.
Last weekend I got some beautiful daffodils from the farmers market. They are still going strong.
I tried a new pasta recipe similar to the feta Tik Tock pasta but better. Our Senior year of college we had pasta Sunday dinners and I think I might bring that tradition back.
If you need a way to dry your sustainable earth friendly bags I just found this option. Its from Ware AVL, a woman owned store in Asheville, NC. I need to do a weekly Facebook and Instagram post on earth friendly swaps.
My family loves Aloha bags. How cute is this sea turtle collaboration with Lazy Turtle?
Another week another picnic.
Penny has been over alot lately. She did make a great nap buddy when I was flipping to nights last weekend before working Monday and Tuesday night.
Semi homemade poptarts are a favorite of my mine. I recently got a craving. I have an idea for some cute Easter egg shaped ones. In the past I hand cut these but I thought about trying a cookie cutter for a more uniform look. It worked great.
Ten weeks into 2021. The vaccinations continue to roll out and I feel hopeful. Well until the next global pandemic when hu as can’t do the decent right thing.
Another week, another picnic. The water was higher than usual this week.
A former nail picker down to nothing, just working on my nail game.
New hair is always the best. Also I can’t believe how long my hair is.
Friends of Hunting Island installed a new playground at the Lighthouse area. It will be great for babes too little to climb the lighthouse.
Penny has been visiting so much lately.
I’m getting a new phone soon and I am totally miss droppsies. What is your favorite protective case? I currently use Otterbox Defender. Just wanting something cuter.
We made buffalo shrimp again. They were better this time too. We used a different breading and it stayed on better.
Our rental pup has been visiting frequently this week.
Last weekend we has our first getaway in a long time. Hooray for vaccines and science.
I am not usually a fan of carnations but take most things and make them mini sized and I will love them more. This case is actually a yogurt container from Paris. It’s ceramic. I wish the US had more cool reusable stuff like this.
I’ve finished reading about three books this week. I was reading four at one time. I used to be in the solid one book only camp but now I prefer an audiobook for errands, cleaning, driving and an ebook for other times. I also love a good physical book.
Annie F Downs is one of my favorites. I listened to this book last year that I received free for preordering. I’ve been reading and following her for some time now. She has a precious story about buying a bottle of champagne in 2016 saying she would drink it when her book hit the NYT best sellers list. Well this book did! I’m so excited for her. I feel like she is a close friend but really she is an Internet person who has no idea I exist. My favorite book of hers is Looking for Lovely which is along the same theme as That Sounds Fun. I can’t wait to see what else life gives her!
I’ve have been making an effort to do my nails more. I guess I have been successful since all these were worn at some point since last Friday. You know those little things like painting your nails and lighting the candle when you are home.
Another day, another picnic lunch spot.
I have NOT slept well the past two nights. I am blaming my nightshift I worked on Monday. I’m praying for deeply restorative restful sleep tonight.
I celebrated Valentine’s with two of my besties. Of course that called for a heart themed charcuterie board. Aren’t these fun?!? I saw the inspiration on Instagram and knew I had to make my own version.
So glad I got to snuggle this cutie for a bit this past week.
I finally got my ranunculus in the ground, you know about two months too late.
Ryan and I had red beans and rice for dinner Tuesday night, as well as a fake King cake. I made a cinnamon roll pull apart and turned it Mardi Gras themed. I’m all about celebrating small things with great easy store bought intention.
Our neighbors dog has visited a good bit lately. She is spoiled, getting all those Ryan snuggles.
Another week, another picnic. This time I was smart enough to wear two layers of pants, a hat, a sweatshirt plus a jacket.
We attempted homemade buffalo shrimp last Friday night at home. It was good but not quite as good as the restaurant. Mainly the breading we think?
Valentine’s nails.
I made the viral feta pasta bake. I like it. Not sure Ryan did but he also had been at work since 0600 which tends to make him a zombie. Walmart was out of blocks of feta so I used crumbles. I read this wouldn’t work as well because they don’t melt as well? I don’t know. It seemed fine to me.
I’ve been loving Libro.fm for my audiobook subscription. I found it a few months ago to replace Audible, simply because I want to support local books shops instead of Amazon and Amazon questionable ethics. You can click the link for my referral code.
Got crafty this week. I am loving these colors. I had used this to make a palm and moon with the wrong glue and instead of tossing it I am repurposing.
