Pedestrian Life

This is it. Normal, daily life ticking by on our streets and sidewalks, in our houses and apartments, in our beds and at our dinner tables, in our dreams and prayers and fights and secrets—this pedestrian life is the most precious thing any of us will ever experience. Shauna Niequist, Cold Tangerines

In the book Cold Tangerines , Shauna Niequist talks about how as a society we are always waiting on our life changing movie worthy moments. She goes on remind us that our life is movie worthy and full of many precious little moments waiting to be discovered. We just have to open our eyes and appreciate it. So every Friday I’m going to post the weeks pedestrian life picture to help me keep those precious glittering glimpses close at heart.

A Gift

Image

I have a kindle that I love.  The slim electronic that can hold hundreds and hundreds of stories that can transport you to any time and any place. BUT every now and then I love a good solid book. Touch it, feel it, smell it, see it book. I wish the screen was scratch and sniff for everyone to enjoy the smell of a new book or old book for that matter. Books are lovely. Many years ago my mama, aunt, and grandmother instilled in me a love of reading. Honestly, I don’t know how they were able to ingrain this into all of the children on my mom’s side but we all love to read. I wish I knew the magic formula to teach people to love to read. (I’d teach the lovely Mr.) I do not know. My best guess is they read to us and we watched them all sit in the same room together yet absorbed by books at some point every time they were together. (As a side note all three of them and I pick our toenails subconsciously while we read. Gross I know but yet it fascinates me that we all do it.)  All of the cousin twins can manage to stay up past our bedtime engrossed in a good book. We crave them. We devour them. Occasionally, we try to savor them but often get too caught up in the story line and read it quickly.  Even Kyle and Will have been known to read which is unusual for men. So to Mama, Aunt Amy, and Grammie THANK YOU for one of the greatest lessons and gifts you gave me, a love of reading. A gift that enlightens, transports, serves as an escape, educates, reduces boredom and passes time-sometimes faster than we would like. Thanks for giving me a love for real books and electronic books anyway I can take them I will. It’s truly a beautiful thing.

Zoo

This week Ryan and I took a break from unpacking and went to the zoo with this sweet baby. We also bought wands for her princess party. She just couldn’t quite understand why we had to save them!

I think this is the first time in our zoo adventures that we saw this big guy.

December and continuing on into January was a month full of family and love! AtJust the way it should be! Jane, Em and I started the month off at zoo light safari.
Em had a blast playing in the “snow”!
Candace and her lovely assistance took some beautiful engagement picture for me and Ryan. Ryan was a wonderful sport through the afternoon process!

I love the cobblestone in this picture. I can’t wait to see the rest!
After that weekend, Emilee and I went home then to Fairhope with Claire, Grnny, Cthy, and the boys.

Em even let all the boys hold her!
After that fun it was time to go home so I could put in a few days at work before the real Christmas fun began!

Fantasy in Lights

I remember the morning we walked through the city together. You know, he said, leaning into me, there’s only love & what you do with it. & suddenly, like the first scent of green things at the end of winter, it was all around me & everywhere there were people with eyes shining & it was so clear they had been there all along that I had to laugh & wonder how I ever thought we could fail. ~Story People

20121205-091500.jpgOn November 29, 2012, we went to Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens. I love the stunning Christmas scenes. I enjoy “Snowflake” our transportation through the magical night. After the trolly ride, Ryan suggested we watch one of the lake scenes. I said we didn’t have to as he appeared to be freezing. We walked over to the lake and he suggested I put down my things. He then put my hand in his pocket and began (what I thought at first was him playing with my fingertips) to put the ring on my finger! While he kissed me and told me he loved me. He also said, ” I do not know all the ways to tell you I love you but I want to spend everyday of the rest of my life telling you. Will you marry me?” Of course I said yes! How sweet. One day maybe I can get Ryan to tell his side of the story.
20121205-091414.jpg20121205-091434.jpgWe had the ring custom made to what I wanted. Inspired by rings I liked but weren’t quite the one I wanted and my great grandmother’s ring. We have not set a date as of now we are just enjoying the moment.
