Books are Better Bought Locally

When you read a great book, you don’t escape life, you plunge deeper into it.   ~Julian Barnes

From holding a job for a few hours a week during college to working a full-time job and flexi job for six years to now working a part time job and a flexi job I have worked hard to earn my money, and I want to give it to people that work hard and deserve it. I am not saying that large corporations do not employ mommies and daddies and sons and daughters that do not work hard. In fact three large corporations pay our bills. And I am so grateful for the opportunity to work there and bring home a pay check. But I want to put my money where my heart is. Continue reading “Books are Better Bought Locally”

Loggerhead Love

turtle4

All my life I have risen with the sun to scour the beach for turtle tracks and capture the sunrise in photographs. One morning during our most recent trip I took Em with me. It was special to do this with her since I have the fondest memories of going out in the early light with daddy and Grandmama. Sharing this with her I had all the feels. I had been hoping for a spectacular sunrise and some turtle tracks to share with her. Well God and some Lowcountry magic delivered. Not only did we stumble directly upon the first set of tracks while walking onto the beach from our car we saw two more crawls that day. One false crawl, one destroyed nest and one that was relocated to safer grounds, so she was able to see all types. And the sunrise was spectacular.

Emily Ley’s Simplified Planner academic version starts this week. I still use the academic version even though I’m not in school. I like that you get a fresh start in August. Like a jump start to getting back after those goals you had in mind for the year.

I am in love with this Madison Skort and hope they make it in more prints this fall.

Ihadamiscarriage instagram account is helping to break the stigma attached to infant and pregnancy loss. The same reason I feel so passionately about openly and loudly sharing our story and all the hard things that go with it. Not for attention or sympathy but to break the silence and help other women feel less alone.

Pepperplace Market is my all time favorite Magic City Saturday morning activity.

This Athleta Maxi seems similar to my navy and white striped one that I love.

I have not made Laura Lea’s Blueberry Peanut Butter Crumble Bars yet but I can not wait to try them.

The Barefoot Mermaid’s Guide to Beaufort, South Carolina Part I

My family has spent years in and around Beaufort. And by years I mean almost every summer since my mom was three. It was not until planning our last trip with my in-laws that I decided I needed to write a travel post about it. My roots and love for the Lowcountry run deep. Moving there crosses my mind at least monthly but sometimes daily. Hopefully one day. Until then I will just dream and visit at least once a year. Below are some of our favorite things in and around Beaufort. Some are on our to do list, I will update as we actually do them. I have noted our favorites as part of our Always List meaning every time we are visiting the are we eat/shop/visit. Continue reading “The Barefoot Mermaid’s Guide to Beaufort, South Carolina Part I”
