Welcome to the Roaring 20s

This morning I watched the first sunrise of 2020 standing on the literal foundation of so much of my life, the beach house. What a gift. I’ve been reflecting this last few days and looking a head. I’ve thought about what legacy I hope to leave when I die and what I hope people will say about me at my funeral (hint it’s not those Southern-isms such as sweet, kind, a good heart, blah). To know which direction you want to go in you need to know where you want to go.

The Roaring 20s are here! I am excited to see what they have in store.

I have six main themes. My phrase for 2020 is Root to Rise a yoga-ism from.one of my yoga teachers, Megan. In yoga it means a firm, grounded foundation so you can rise tall and strong. Basically going for the same thing in 2020 life. Planting deep roots to rise in life.

Below are my goal themes. The goals written out as if they have already been completed.

Physical Wellness

I am the healthiest version of myself. My body is operating in it’s tip top optimal condition. I am energetic, have excellent lab levels, well-rested, strong, clearer skin, accomplished, and flexible.

Spiritual Light

I  deeply connected to God, myself, the people I love, the earth, and the universe.  Thus my inner light radiated to those around me.

Mental Health

My mind is peaceful and my heart is full of joy. My light and physical body ground my emotions and mental space.  I have a more peace, a quieter mind, therefore I have a deeper connection with myself.

Finances

We are financially secure and I have peace about money. We are able to give generously to bless others.

Life-giving Home

Our house is a place of refuge, belonging and love. Our space provides us with clarity, rest, energy, joy and rejuvenation. It houses celebrations, love, laughter, miracles and warmth.

Rooted Connections

I have rooted, deep connections with my tribe. We have become rooted in our community. Our marriage is anchored and thriving.

In January I am planning to read three books, simplify my clothes, organize the pantry, exercise four days a week, send some snail mail, follow the Clean Mama calendar, document my food and exercise, eat lower (ish) carb, and review spending weekly.

What do you hope 2020 holds for you?

Fabulous Friday 2019, XXXII

Happy Weekend!

It has been a busy week around here. We had a few nest inventories with hatching season really gearing up. Praying for some and some babies when Em comes back to visit.

We had dinner and went to a nest inventory with my Uncle, Aunt and cousin who were visiting Fripp from Ohio. It was good to catch up.

There was a beautiful double rainbow during some of the inventories.

I had a hummingbird visit my feeder. I can not believe it. I have had the feeder up since April and finally in August I get one! I hope it comes back and brings friends.

I found a cute platter for football weekends. Its on sale. Im gearing up for a football kickoff party with my younger cousins.

Ryan and I paid $150 for a martial test and got a free gazebo out of the deal. Ha! Seriously it took both of us working over two hours to get this done. Now I want one of those zero gravity chairs to go in it.

I finished season 2 of Mrs. Maisel. It took me a bit to get into it for some reason but I totally am excited about Season 3 soon.

Someone I follow on Instagram posted she put out free flowers from her garden. Our street is quiet so I put together some bunches and took them down to the water front park.

I keep forgetting to do the weekly “happy”, memory, or celebration. But I guess these post highlight alot. Id say dinner with family and my hummingbird visitor.

Savor your Weekend no matter if it holds a break or work.

Lovies.

A New Adventure

Phew! I can’t believe this is real. I am terrified and excited. Sad and happy. We are embarking on a new adventure. In 2019, we will be moving to Beaufort, SC. For those of you that do not know it is about half way in between Savannah and Charleston. It is where my beloved Hunting Island is. It was voted Southern Living’s Best Small Town in 2017.

I grew up going to the area as my maternal grand parents had a beach house on Hunting Island. Ryan and I have continued to visit the area and he loves the area as much as me, maybe. He is much better equipped for the move since he has lived all over.

This is a huge adjustment as it will be the furthest I have ever lived from my family and outside of the state of Alabama for longer than a summer at camp Aunt Amy. Oh, and there is that blue eyed blonde headed girl that I can not even think about her and moving without nearly vomiting, so needless to say Birmingham you will still be seeing a lot of me back and forth. Luckily, it has been instilled in me that when it comes to love the miles don’t matter.

We are going to place our home in Birmingham on the market to sell. We will rent in Beaufort just to get a lay of the land and make sure living at the beach feels right and good. Because vacationing at the beach and living at the beach are two very different things.

This has been a huge decision and I have gone back and forth on and made myself physically sick over but essentially it boils down to not wanting to wonder what if. Every desicion in my life  have thought but what bout Em? What about Ry?  What about my mom? What about my dad? What about Teddy and Tare? And I feel like for maybe one of the few in my life I said BUT what about Anna Kate?

At the beginning of November I quit my job in the NICU for various, different reasons. But that seemed to be the knock on the door that threw open all the other doors. Ryan and I have talked about moving there but hadn’t because of said blonde headed girl. But he got a call out of the blue from Wal-Mart asking if he was still interested in a job there and well everything slide into place rather easily.

The doors just seemed to fly open so we are giving it a go. Luckily, like most things in life a move is not irreversible. Granted a pain in the butt but not something we are committing to for forever. We will see where the tide and salty breeze takes us over the next few years.

I cycle back and forth between I am excited and OMG I am going to puke. I’m constantly reminding myself on the other side of terrified is growth and magic. I constantly wonder if I am actually brave enough to do this because change is hard. But so are the rewards.

Please pray and send us love and good vibes for a smooth transition, a good profit on our house, a smooth transition for those we love, blessings of new friends, a new flexible job for me and transportation to and from the people we love.

Thanks to everyone for their love and support. Here is to new adventures, many house guests, sandy feet, shrimp, Lowcontry magic and a changing of the tides.

Fabulous Friday, XIII

Well this month has flown by. In a rush of celebrations, work and beaches.

Loved partying up 31 with these loves.

We spent sometime at my favorite place on earth. This mermaid’s heart belongs here. The time wasn’t quite long or peaceful enough. I already want to go back.

New hairs! I still kept my purple and teal but went back darker with a splash of blonde. Loving it. But wish my hair would grow longer. Of course it is as long as it has ever been.

I have been playing with Beautycounter’s new blush, highlighters, bronzers and eye shadows. It’s so fun to play with different colors. If you want to come try them out let me know.

I made this new recipe from Just Jessie B. It was delightful and made great breakfast leftovers.

Hung out with this girlie this week. I was taking a bath and opened the door to find her waiting here on the other side. So sweet and yet so smothering. I know I’ll miss these days.

Watching my little lemon tree grow. Fingers crossed I don’t kill it!

Happy Weekend Friends! I hope you enjoy. I can’t believe how long this week even today has been. I hope your weekend is filled with the things Summer dreams are made of. Planning some market time and relaxation around here. Oh yeah, some cleaning and stalking the mail for my Nordie sale packages.

xoxo

A Weekend Escape to Beaufort, SC

This past weekend Ryan and I escaped for some relaxing time in the Lowcountry. The weather was a little chilly especially since when I was in Savannah just a week and a few days before it was a balmy 80 degrees. Since Ryan’s foot is still in a boot, we did not do anything major. Just relaxed, ate good food, spent some time driving around to different areas, and chased the sunsets.

My usual beach days start with beach sunrise walks. It really was colder than I expected this week so I did not walk much. Usually, I grab breakfast from Palm and Moon bagel to enjoy by the waterfront. It was closed this week for some constructions. I grabbed a biscuit at Common Grounds. The next mornings I just made my way back to bed for a nap before Ryan (the habitual late sleeper) woke up.

We grabbed lunch and then drove around, spent sometime on the beach or at the waterfront before dinner.  We tried a few new places while we were in town. Sea Eagle, Boundary Street Cafe, Bella Luna, The Upper Crust and Blackstone’s.

Sea Eagle was your generic seafood but the smell of the seafood market in the same building was too much. I prefer Shrimp Basket

Boundary Street Cafe was delicious and we will definitely go back. Ryan had the french toast. I had a panini with pimento cheese and bacon and a side of tomato soup. It reminded me of the tomato soup at Joe’s in Alabaster if you have ever been there. We split a She Crab Soup which has come closest to being similar to our favorite soup which from Panini’s on the Waterfront.

We also just ordered soup from Bella Luna. It was different. We couldn’t quite figure out how maybe added veggies?

The Upper Crust is a local pizza joint. We ordered it to go and enjoyed it at the park at sunset. We will eat there again. The upper crust pizza has an upper crust as well. It reminded me of a calzone. I want to try their Frogmore special which has shrimp and sausage on it.

Blackstone’s is located on a side street a few steps from Bay Street. They have breakfast and sandwiches. Ryan ordered the shrimp and grits, I had the crab cakes Benedict, and we shared a walnut cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was sweet and soft. I particularly like the different nautical and school flags they used to decorate.

We also tried out Stellar Ice Cream on Lady’s Island. Yummy with interesting flavors such as ricotta honey.

We also saw a double feature at the HWY 21 Drive In Friday night. The line up could have not been more perfect. A Wrinkle in Time and Black Panther. Both phenomenal. We caught a little of Peter Rabbit before our movies started and it’s on my too watch list. We usually go to the cheaper theater in BHM that shows movies on a later timeline. Normally this is cost effective and perfectly fine with me. So this felt like a real treat.

We left later than we really planned on Sunday because Daylight Savings (oh how I loathe thee) and brunch at Blackstone’s took longer than anticipated.  The drive home which is about 6 hours and 20 minutes seemed to take forever! I had real re-entry dread/anxiety Sunday afternoon and evening. I took some time on the drive home to look at my calendar and intentionally plan some workouts and to do list time. I also made myself completely unpack which I have a bad habit of drawing it out. All that to say I am looking for some tips and tricks to make travel and the subsequent transition back into everyday life smoother. As much as we travel you think I would have this down but I do not. Any suggestions or tips?

Loggerhead Love

turtle4

All my life I have risen with the sun to scour the beach for turtle tracks and capture the sunrise in photographs. One morning during our most recent trip I took Em with me. It was special to do this with her since I have the fondest memories of going out in the early light with daddy and Grandmama. Sharing this with her I had all the feels. I had been hoping for a spectacular sunrise and some turtle tracks to share with her. Well God and some Lowcountry magic delivered. Not only did we stumble directly upon the first set of tracks while walking onto the beach from our car we saw two more crawls that day. One false crawl, one destroyed nest and one that was relocated to safer grounds, so she was able to see all types. And the sunrise was spectacular.

The Barefoot Mermaid’s Guide to Beaufort, South Carolina Part I

My family has spent years in and around Beaufort. And by years I mean almost every summer since my mom was three. It was not until planning our last trip with my in-laws that I decided I needed to write a travel post about it. My roots and love for the Lowcountry run deep. Moving there crosses my mind at least monthly but sometimes daily. Hopefully one day. Until then I will just dream and visit at least once a year. Below are some of our favorite things in and around Beaufort. Some are on our to do list, I will update as we actually do them. I have noted our favorites as part of our Always List meaning every time we are visiting the are we eat/shop/visit. Continue reading “The Barefoot Mermaid’s Guide to Beaufort, South Carolina Part I”

The Green Door

Midnight, one more night without sleeping
Watching till the morning comes creeping
Green door, what’s that secret you’re keeping?
There’s an old piano
And they play it hot behind the green door
Don’t know what they’re doing
But they laugh a lot behind the green door
Wish they’d let me in so I could find out
What’s behind the green door.
