The first weekend of 2018 was spent in New Bern, NC for Ryan’s best friend’s wedding. Our trip was a bit hampered by Ryan’s broken foot, snow and ice in the area but we still aimed to have a good time. As a side note I was absolutely crushed we could not dance, as dancing is one of my favorite things ever. We also had wedding things to attend so did not have as much downtime for exploring since everything takes ten times longer with a broken foot.
I had been to New Bern before when my Aunt and Uncle lived on Emerald Isle. I forgot how charming and historic it is. New Bern has so much to offer and I hope we can make it back soon.
We stayed close to the rest of the wedding party at the SpringHill Suites. The location was convenient to downtown and other areas. It was clean with friendly, helpful staff.
Ryan’s parents at the Double Tree Riverfront. I think this location is ideal if you plan to spend much time in the downtown area.
Tryon Palace was the first capitol of North Carolina. It was beautiful to see it in the snow.
Christ Episcopal Church is a beautiful historic church located in downtown.
Walk around the Riverwalk.
Take a drive around the downtown area. The beautiful old houses remind me of Beaufort, SC.
If you are in the area check out Magnolia Jane Salon for a cut or just a blowout. Holly there did an amazing job on my hair.
MJ’s Raw Bar and Grill has delicious shrimp ask for a side of there sweet chili sauce too. We were delighted that the serve Coke products, even just a few doors down from the birth place of Pepsi.
Captain Ratty’s was also recommended to us, we just didn’t have time to go.
Honestly, we ate some Panera and other chains because ice and snow and time!
